The security and surveillance company Macroswiss illustrates in the following video some of the newest and latest robotic technology which they have been working on. The little spybot with the built-in mini Uzi is neat, but also check out the Hydrobot, which is a spybot for boats taking the form of a floating seagull as a disguise to hide away it's cameras.

Though what you see are essentially Macroswiss' robots in its very early demo stages and are literallly concepts in the making, if you're interested there are also a number of other videos available online via YouTube (search for Macroswiss Security Robots on FutureWeapons).

Is it just me or did the bots in the video remind you of Recon Scout?

Vertu phones are well known to be used by the rich and the famous and rightly so this phone has the most elegant design I've seen for a long time. The gallery below you see below is of the new Vertu called the Signature S Design and I reckon if you own the original Signature then you will definitely like this new one even more!

The handset measures 130 x 42 x 13 mm and supports quad-band GSM (850/900/1800/1900MHz) and dual-band 3G (850/2100MHz). The Signature S Design will also support Wi-Fi and bluetooth. Most importantly, with white gold, yellow gold or stainless steel to choose from, that OLED display will even look more stunning!

Video: Review of BlackBerry Storm 9500

via GadgetLite - Latest gadgets and technology news... by Editorial Staff on 11/12/08

We've talked quite abit about the new BlackBerry Storm has it was first unveiled, you will also remember we featured a hands on first look at the phone last month. This week we received an update from Tom over at Stuff.tv about their latest review of the new flagship and we highly recommend you watch it (below), it's got great detail on some of the features which many were hoping to find out more about.

For example, RIM's clickable touchscreen technology which really is quite something if you know how difficult it is for these to work properly. Also like we mentioned before, on the BlackBerry Storm you can create texts in the horizontal or landscape position without having the install an additional paid application, for some odd reason Steve Jobs never thought of this on the iPhone. The user interface and additional functions like GPS all seem to work pretty well, however the major downside in my view is the lack of WiFi which means you're having to rely on HSDPA via Vodafone.

NEC reveals two new PowerMate all in one PCs

via GadgetLite - Latest gadgets and technology news... by Editorial Staff on 11/14/08

Like the Apple iMac, HP TouchSmart or Sony's VAIO JS Series, NEC is now launching its own range of all in one PCs, two of them in fact - PowerMate P4000 and P6000. As you will have guessed, the P4000 has a more minimalistic spec compared to the P6000, though their specs don't actually make them the best in the game of all in one PCs, I suppose this does offer consumers more options over which ones would suit them the best. The 16-inch P4000 has a 1.9GHz AMD Athlon 64 X2 processor, NVIDIA GeForce 9100M G integrated graphics chip, 1GBof RAM, and a 250GB hard drive. The 19-inch P6000 has a 2.53GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, NVIDIA GeForce 9300 graphics card, 2GB of RAM, and a 500GB hard drive.

Latest Belkin Switch-to-Mac cable makes it so easy to switch from Windows

We often feature some basic help for readers who have just started using their new Macs and can't find their way around a completely new but simplier OS environment. This latest gadget from Belkin will in our opinion definitely make Macs even more attractive compared to Windows PCs because the Switch-to-Mac cable makes your file transferring process from Windows to Mac OS X as simple as… well just sitting there without doing anything, because it automatically does it all for you!

Belkin's Switch-to-Mac cable helps you transfer not just files from your PC but also your original settings and preferences. Unlike existing products where you have to drag and drop specific files you want to transfer. The Switch-to-Mac cable has its own Migration Assistant which is compatible with Windows XP and Vista, it automatically moves your music, photos, files (and more!) and internet preferences the way you want it, this makes your transition from Windows PC to Mac OS X as trouble free as possible (not that anything ever goes wrong on Macs…).

The Switch-to-Mac cable is expected to be out soon at an affordable price of $50 USD.

via GadgetLite - Latest gadgets and technology news... by Editorial Staff on 11/14/08

While some of you may have just jailbroken / unlocked iPhone firmware 2.1, you may have heard that the next version, version 2.2 is coming out really soon. In fact this leaked news have been rumoring the whole of this week and most including myself believe so. According to many resources across the web, it will apparently be out next friday (November 21). In case you were wondering what's in store for the new and upcoming iPhone 2.2 software update, here they are, as mentioned by iPhone Hellas:

  • New look for the Safari with the Google search bar now occupying its own space on the title bar
  • Add toggle On / Off to disable the text auto-correction
  • 461 Japanese emoji icons (only available in Japan)
  • Support for new languages.
  • The Line-in audio is activated and can be used through the headphone jack.
  • New features of Maps.app:
    • Google Street View
    • Google Transit information - Routes public transport
    • Walking directions
    • Location sharing
  • New features of the App Store:
The sector 'Categories' now shows the icons of the applications instead of the list.
In each page of the application has been added by a button 'Tell A Friend' & 'Report A Problem'.
Added the possibility of scoring the application when the user chooses to delete from the device
  • Direct downloading of podcasts from the iTunes Wi-Fi Music Store

iphone-firmware-os-udpate-22 Rumors rumors: iPhone OS software / firmware update 2.2, November 21?As you can see the list looks great and are all features that we will definitely appreciate, except, again there isn't a copy and paste feature…

Nevertheless, the good news that we always look forward to in addition to the firmware update is the fact that the iPhone Dev Team have already mentioned that they probably won't have any major issues hacking through firmware 2.2 as they have tested their software on its beta version. So jailbreakers, I don't think we will need to wait too long to see a new jailbreak and unlock software update from the iPhone Dev Team after 2.2 has been officially released - hopefully rumors are correct and it will be released next friday!

Review: Sync with confidence using GoodSync

Sent to you by Sharath via Google Reader:

via GadgetLite - Latest gadgets and technology news... by Editorial Staff on 11/16/08

First of all we would just like to apologise to Andrea who sent us this demo of GoodSync version 7-5-2 to be reviewed, we've been having some trouble with our one and only PC after it was sent in, its given up on us! So as a result, you will probably notice from some of our screenshots, we're doing this review using a freshly installed Windows XP Pro via VMware Fusion on a Mac!

Let's first tell you what GoodSync is all about…

GoodSync, is the latest software in a series of highly reliable, easy to use products from Siber Systems, the makers of RoboForm. The program automatically synchronizes and backs up emails, photos, financial documents, MP3s and any other important files between desktops, laptops, servers, and external drives.

GoodSync uses an innovative synchronization algorithm to prevent file deletion, data loss, and eliminate duplicate files. GoodSync already enjoys numerous favorable reviews from both users and the press. Its powerful technology is remarkably easy to use, and is the only solution that offers true bi-directional synchronization.

Also it's worth pointing out to those who aren't used to the two terms sync and backup. The simple difference between synchronisation and backup is that backing up is a one way transfer, whereas in synchronisation, you're performing a transfer process that's two way and the end result is that both sources (computer folders which you have pre-specified for example) will have the same files.

So without further ado, let's tell you what we thought of GoodSync. Just from first impressions, launching GoodSync was fast, no delays, we thought on first glance that it was simple but also professionally made and well thought out.

And if we take a closer look at what it's doing to our virtual PC, for those who are cautious about memory usage, we can see that it's consumption on system's memory is very minimal:

goodsync-memory-consumption Review: Sync with confidence using GoodSync

We then give it a simple task to do in order to test it out. This task was a very common one, we wanted GoodSync to sync for us some music files from another computer on the same network to this computer via WiFi. The aim wasn't to test out its transfer speed but to find out how it performed a job, as well as reliability, does it crash half way through, does it have bits of missing data at the end of the transfer process, etc…

goodsync-another-job-tab Review: Sync with confidence using GoodSync

Another feature I would like to point out is that you can ask GoodSync to perform multiple jobs at the same time by pressing the yellow plus button in the top left corner.

Of course this will compromise your system memory, but it's not something we see in all synchronisation tools you come across these days.

Now that I have given GoodSync the location I would llike my files to be synced from, it immediately provides me with a tooltip pointing out to me as to where I need to press to select the local folder for files to arrive and this is great for those who just hate reading instructions or find it difficult to recognise what the next step required actually is. As soon as I have provided it with the two locations I would like my files to be synced, again it now points to me that my next action is to use the analyze function.

After quickly analyzing, it provides me with a data report like screen, telling me which folders and files will be synced, as well as the memory that I will require to complete this task, any conflicts or errors that it encountered that I should give attention to.

Another good thing about this feature is that now I can see which files it will be synchronising for me, I can easily right click on a file or folder on the left and tell it to exclude synchronisation for those if I had regrets. As oppose to some softwares which go ahead and sync automatically, you often end up finding out that files you didn't want to get transferred got transferred anyway.

analyze-report-goodsync-screenshot Review: Sync with confidence using GoodSync

So now that I've just clicked on Sync, let's see how much more system resource it's using up:syncing-goodsync-windows-task-manager Review: Sync with confidence using GoodSync

Surprisingly it's just taken a tiny fraction more.

I guess now is a good time to recap and show you what I've just done using an example instruction taken from GoodSync:

goodsync-example-synchronisation Review: Sync with confidence using GoodSync

In addition GoodSync isn't just for synchronising and backuping files from two computers. A key part of GoodSync's value is the options that you can use to control when items are synced. For USB flashdrive / key users, the option of having a sync start whenever a key is inserted is a must have. The periodic scheduling down to a one-minute sync is also very useful.

Check out the instructions below:

goodsync-options Review: Sync with confidence using GoodSync

goodsync-auto-options-490x344 Review: Sync with confidence using GoodSync

In my opinion this is my favourite feature, not only because I loose USB flashdrives all the time, this feature will ensure that I have my lost files right where I want them as long as I have plugged it in for a sync recently.

GoodSync also gives you a simple check box option whether or not you want to propagate deletions across a sync pair. That is, if a file is deleted from one side of the sync, it's up to the user (in the options) to choose whether or not the file should be deleted on the other side.

For those who were wondering whether GoodSync would work with other devices or servers. GoodSync does offer the same smooth functionality for FTPs, Amazon S3, WebDAV and also Windows Mobile. See screenshot below:

choices-options-goodsync Review: Sync with confidence using GoodSync

Did I mention our music transfer test went smoothly? After synchronising for us GoodSync also gave us a quick report, this is what I found useful. Especially if you plan on synchronising anything important, you would want to know which files or folders its missed out.

after-sync-report-490x67 Review: Sync with confidence using GoodSync

So in a short summary here are what we thought were the good points and the bad points:

Pros:

  • Good simple user interface
  • Runs smoothly, no instability issues
  • Only a tiny bit of your system memory resource will be required
  • Has some very useful features such as analysis, easy customisation for specified jobs
  • Supports multiple types of files sources and destinations such as FTPs, Amazon S3, WebDAV and also Windows Mobile
  • A reliable tool for those who need to sync priceless pictures, files and data

Cons:

  • None! No issues were identified
  • Some past reviews commented that "some configuration menus are quite heavy, with loads of text explaining each option" (http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=5941), but we felt this has been much improved on the latest release which we tested
  • Unfortunately, no support for Macs

We weren't asked to give a rating, however if we needed to, GoodSync would easily deserve a rating of 5/5 from us. So if you're looking for a software that's reliable for transferring, synchronising and backing up important files across different devices or servers, no matter what type of files, we would definitely recommend you try out GoodSync.

Though it isn't free, the download is just 1.05Mb and supports Windows 2000/XP/2003/Vista, you can test out its 30-day trial with no limitations or restrictions, click here to find out more via GoodSync…

As expected, the iPhone Dev Team has revealed a further update on their progress with unlocking the iPhone 3G and preparation from the coming iPhone firmware update version 2.2.

iphone-apple-firmware-udpate-22-news-leaked-490x193 iPhone Dev Team: iPhone 3G unlocking progress and firmware update 2.2

Jailbreakers, in case you were wondering whether it you should update your jailbroken iPhone to 2.2 once Apple prompts you to do so in iTunes, here is what the iPhone Dev Team themselves said…

"Now for something a bit more serious, we've explained about Apple's updates in the past and we've warned against the immediate installation of these updates without knowing what they do to your device.

This is indeed true of the iPhone 3G's upcoming 2.2 release. Installing '2.2' on the iPhone 3G could slow down your chances of a software unlock in the near future (should one be found and released), so when you see an update in iTunes await our instructions first!

Please don't blindly install the update and then complain about it later ;-)"

iphone-keyboard-portable-gadget iPhone accessories: Bluetooth wireless iPhone keyboard

Have you found typing on the iphone difficult? Ever thought something could be done about it, apart from slimming down so that your fat fingers can shrink abit (I have!). With iPhone's tiny touchscreen keypad, it makes typing emails or messages extremely hard and time consuming. This deivce called the BTleyMini, has been designed to solve the above problem.

The BTKeyMini is a bluethooth keyboard which is designed for iPhone and iPod Touch. Using your iPhone's bluetooth connection, you can sync the keyboard shown above with your iPhone thus no wire is required. There is also a flap on the keyboard which is presumably there to hold the iPhone in place.

Although the BTleyMini sounds promising and convenient for texts and emails. I don't think there are that many people that type so much on the iPhone to the extent that they would want to carry a separate keyboard along with the iPhone. Some businessmen might do but then most of them also have laptops and netbooks these days.

via GadgetLite - Latest gadgets and technology news... by Editorial Staff on 11/17/08

Talk about high tech gadgets, HTC is certainly on a role. For those who are addicted and just can't stop from craving on the latest technology, HTC has announced the world's first GSM/WiMAX headset. Unforunately, this may mean you will need to brush up your Russian, the device will be available only in Russia (at least for now) on the Yota Mobile WiMAX network. The MAX 4G appears similar to the super high-end HTC Touch HD that was recently announced with a large 3.8 inch 800×480 display and touch screen interface. The MAX 4G will support the Yota Video network and the device is capable of displaying up to nine TV channels simultaneously!

htc_max_4g_004 Latest HTC Max 4G: World's first GSM-WiMax mobile

The HTC MAX 4G is the world's first smartphone to feature the integration of GSM and WiMAX radios. With this integration the MAX 4G can switch seamlessly from GSM networks to Mobile WiMAX networks. With the addition of a SIM card, the MAX 4G can make voice calls over most GSM networks which makes it a very useful mobile to have for those visiting Europe.

The HTC MAX 4G features the same 3.8 inch, 800×480 WVGA touch screen display that is used in the HTC Touch HD. With the integrated GPS receiver you will always know exactly where you are, while the WiFi and WiMAX will ensure you have high-speed wireless data (you will be able to get proper data speeds of 70Mb/sec!).

LAS VEGAS, NV (June 18, 2008) – Optoma, a leading manufacturer of award-winning digital projection and display devices, introduces the first Pico projector based on the DLP Pico chipset. Smaller than most smart phones, this new micro-portable projector fits in your palm and is the ideal companion to ultra-portable media devices such as iPods®, PDA's, smart phones and digital cameras.

When connected to an ultra-mobile device, the four-ounce Optoma Pico Projector allows users to share photos and videos, and enjoy a far better visual experience with an image that is up to 100 times larger than the small screen of the source device.

"The Pico Projector is the next step in sharing visual media for today's ultra-mobile consumers. Fitting in your shirt pocket, the Pico Projector can display pictures, videos or any content from a mobile media player or smart phone" says Jon Grodem, director of Product Management for Optoma. "Optoma's Pico breaks free from the limitations of the 2 or 3 inch displays found on today's mobile devices. This category defining projector creates a new benchmark for sharing content-on-the-go."

retro-iphone-headset-1-490x321 Funny iPhone gadgets: Gold handset, very retro!

This is the biggest mobile phone handset I have ever seen. But its geeky but could be cool if I saw someone on the street one of these to their head (I would probably stare instead of laugh). I am sure it's much more comfortable then the conventional in-ear handset though :)

It comes in three color: gold, white and black. It's an ideal gift for those who are crazy about collecting retro style gadgets. I suppose my only concern is that I wouldn't be able to fit it into my pocket after using it!
